Seven-Digit (Local Format) Dialing

Seven-digit (or local format) dialing is a procedure in North America that allows a caller to dial a local number without dialing its area code. While this method of dialing was once standard, it is now supported in very few areas.

CallTrackingMetrics tracking numbers can be dialed using this method in areas where it is still supported, but support for seven-digit dialing is completely dependent on the caller's carrier. If seven-digit dialing is still possible in your target location, some cellular or landline carriers may support it and some may not. We recommend providing the full ten-digit tracking number wherever it is displayed so that any callers who do need to dial all ten digits can do so.

Dialing using ten digits will not always be treated as a long distance call. Dialing with ten digits will be a local call if:

• You are able to call a number locally using seven-digit dialing
• You are not able to call a number using seven-digit dialing, but it is in your local calling area

Dialing using ten digits will be long distance if:

• You are not able to call a number using seven-digit dialing, and it is not in your local calling area
