Transitioning from Google Analytics conversion goals to Google Ads Direct Connect Conversion actions

Clients who are transitioning from Google Analytics goal imports to the Google Ads Direct Connect integration will want to ensure they’re not sending duplicate information into Google Ads. Note: the Google Ads Direct Connect integration is available for users on Growth and Connect plans, as well as the legacy Agency, Advanced, and Enterprise plans.

Here are a few troubleshooting tips:

  1. Remove the imported goal from Google Analytics inside of Google Ads. This will still allow the goal to complete in Analytics and prevent it from reporting inside of Google Ads. (Only complete this step if you’ve created a trigger to send conversions directly into Google Ads)
  2. Go into each call extension and set the conversion actions to none. Alternatively, you could disable the assigned conversion action under the conversions tab in Google Ads. (Only complete this step if you’ve created a trigger to send conversions directly into Google Ads and aren’t using the same conversion action for any other purposes.)

Reasons why you should continue to use both the Analytics and Ads integration:

  • Conversion actions created inside of Google Ads cannot report in Google Analytics. Because of this Google Analytics will not be able to see either of the click-to-call or the click-to-landing page conversion goals. Keeping both integrations running on CallTrackingMetrics will keep the data consistent between all three programs.
